Position Overview:
Sherman Indian High School, a BIE-operated boarding school serving Native American students, is seeking a passionate and culturally responsive Art Teacher for the 2025–2026 academic year. The ideal candidate will bring creativity, empathy, and a strong commitment to fostering artistic expression among high school students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver engaging art curriculum to high school students, grades 9–12
- Incorporate diverse visual arts media including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital design
- Foster an inclusive classroom that reflects Native American culture, history, and identity
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and assessments
- Collaborate with other educators and participate in school events and student activities
- Provide guidance for student exhibitions and art competitions
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Art Education, Fine Arts, or related field
- Valid teaching license or eligibility to obtain one in California or through the BIE system
- Experience teaching art at the secondary level (grades 9–12)
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience working in culturally diverse or Native-serving schools
- Familiarity with indigenous art forms and historical contexts
- Skills in digital arts, mural work, or cross-disciplinary arts projects
