You’ll oversee investigations of complaints about health professionals, ensuring safety and integrity. You’ll also lead our Radiation Control Program, managing licensing, inspections, and emergency preparedness for radioactive materials and x-ray equipment. In addition, you’ll champion the Environmental Health Hazards and Indoor Air Program, tackling issues like asbestos, radon, lead poisoning, mercury, and indoor air quality to keep our communities safe. Lastly, you’ll oversee our Nebraska Public Health Environmental Laboratory, ensuring lab certifications and water testing meet the highest standards. Examples of Work: Establish operational policies and procedures ensuring compliance with regulations and standards, ensuring investigations, inspections, water testing, and licensing activities are conducted accurately, legally, and efficiently, including enforcement actions when necessary. Establish the Unit’s vision, mission, goals, and organizational structure, developing and managing its budget, and preparing comprehensive reports on activities and needs. Develop systems to ensure excellent customer service, organizational mission achievement, operational accountability, staff productivity, and infrastructure adequacy to fulfill business functions effectively. Write and present various types of educational and informational materials to professional organizations, provider groups, and state and federal officials. Oversee the daily operations of the Unit, providing guidance and oversight to staff through goal setting, performance evaluations, and performance management. Establish and Implement policies and procedures related to budgeting, resource allocation, customer service, and expenditure tracking, as well as developing and executing quality assurance and process improvement strategies to ensure operational excellence. Establish mechanisms to ensure that regulatory and statutory provisions coincide with state and national directions, trends, issues, and concerns; and that they adhere to the principles of public protection. Provide oversight and direction to Unit staff which consists of 46 full-time teammates. Provide direct supervision of 6 teammates including program managers for licensing, environmental health hazards, laboratory operations, radiation control, and an administrative technician, providing leadership, direction, and performance management. Responsibilities for this team include preparing job duties, developing goals, conducting performance evaluations, and monitoring daily operations to ensure effective completion of tasks. Additionally, the role involves preparing recruitment documentation and conducting interviews to fill vacant positions within the team, ensuring a cohesive and efficient investigative and environmental health unit. Hold quarterly meetings with all Investigations and Environmental Health Unit staff to provide information and directions and respond to questions and issues. Wage: $37.057 hourly to start. $38.910 hourly after successful completion of original probation. Requirements/Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, social work, human development, public health, behavioral science, law, finance, human resources or other program related field AND four years of experience in a field related to the assigned program area including supervisory experience; OR a Master’s degree in any of the above-mentioned fields and two years commensurate experience. Equivalent experience or coursework/training may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications: Supervisory experience, critical thinking skills, analytical skills.
